Flashback Friday: Jan 2007, Our Life

When Nathan started his new job at OST we thought it was more practical for him to take the bus. It stopped right by the office, I would pick him up and drop him off after nannying - it was a great plan.

Except when it snowed. The buses usually ran late, which meant Lucas and I were waiting an EXTRA long time in the car. It was also hard because it would be freezing cold and dinner time and poor Lucas would be bored out of his mind.

Sometimes I would drive around and sing him songs, sometimes I would park the car and walk over to the grocery store so Nathan knew I was there and could wait for me in the car. Most times though I would let Lucas wiggle around in the car in the back set or the front seat. One time I let him drive! (jk)

It was a long time before Nathan stopped taking the bus. Part of it was fixing the other car, part of it was the money. It was so much cheaper filling up one car a month than two, and that was when gas was under $3.00 a gallon. Look how far we have come, how much simpler it was when we were worried about the bus and picking up Nathan. Trust me, I do not miss calling him asking him where he was - EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

Except, to be real here for a minute:
I do call him at 4 to ask what time he will be leaving now, but it is different.
He is driving himself. Whew! And, he can always pick something up for me on his way home, if I need it.

Looking at this picture makes me remember how HUGE his hands were.
*sigh* it seems like so long ago.
sniff sniff

Free-ash Berries!

(Free-ash = fresh in Scarlett southern accent.)

We were going to go to our usual berry picking place with my friend Ryan and her boys, but she hurt her back so we rescheduled. I didn't want to take the kids to the one we always go to (by our house), and spoil next weeks trip - so we went to a fun new place in Boulder.
This place was awesome. This farm was very large and is a farm run by the original farmer's son.
It is so clean and spacious!
I loaded up the kids at 8am and in an attempt to beat the heat we arrived right at opening.
It was already 90 degrees when we got there!
So I sprayed the kids down with sun screen and we went to work.
This farm sells eggs and we were able to pet a few chickens and grab 2 free ones to try.
Once the farmer counted the 6 of us he gave us a half dozen to take home. :)

I was able to learn about growing things in my own yard and he gave me a few garlic seedlings to take home and sprout for myself. I am so excited since we go through 3-5 whole garlic's a week.
They were having a farmer training class so my kids took part in that.
The kids found baby apples, but decided that Apple Picking at the Hampson's in the fall would be so much more fun. So we left them.

Mason was thrilled to be out of the car seat!
His leg braces are working wonders and he is doing so much better (muscle tone wise)

We trotted down the huge field, it was shady and there were roosters and big dogs around, so Bridget clung to my leg, the.entire.time.

Then it was berry eating picking time!

Juliet ate too many, so I told the other kids they had to wait till we got home. I thought that would even things out.  The kids were little work horses.

They picked: 3.5 pounds of Raspberries, 2 pounds of strawberries, 2 pounds of blackberries and 4 pounds of cherries! We are set for the week. Hehehe.

How could I stop her? They were AT her level! Also, look at this face:

*melt* seriously!

We came home, had lunch and then turned our raspberries into ICE CREAM!

 Juliet was SUCH a help...riiiiiiiight.
 Goose, following every step!

While it was freezing, we built a fort.
 I love this boy!
 Off to grab blankets!
 No Juliet!!!!
 Juliet!!!!
 JULIET!!!!!!
I was telling Nathan how when I was young how much easier it was to make forts with my sister, but that was because my parents slept on a california king. All we had in the house were queen sheets and Mason was staring at me just listening.

PS - WHEN DID HE GROW SO HUGE?!?!

 In the fort.

Then the ice cream was ready.

It was delicious, but I was nervous so I bought this just in case:

 In case you were wondering...
The homemade was better, duh! Why do I doubt myself?

It was a GREAT and busy day.
We checked off 3 things of our summer list!
Berry Picking, Make Ice Cream, Build a Fort!

Now I need to hit the hay, I have a feeling that this sleepover is going to keep me up ALL night!
Lucky for them, I love them even on no sleep!

Witte Reception

Ben and Danielle's wedding continued at the Colorado History Museum. It is brand new and they rented the entire museum for the reception! The kids were free to roam and see the museum's attractions without interruption!

The best part? It was air conditioned!
Hahaha, Just Joking. :)

It was a little weird seeing so many people dressed up, walking around a museum.
The first floor is completely dedicated to kids. Including a play area with a twisty slide and a car to climb in!

These two were little back seat drivers. Hehehehe.
 The kids loved this!

While we were hanging at the museum, Ben and Danielle and the wedding party were en route to the museum in these rickshaws.

We were enjoying the appetizers and then grabbed our table and entered the "eating room" - as Lucas called it. :)
We (my itty bitty wittes) are a large party, so we had our own table.
It worked out, because the well oiled machine Nathan and I are, used the "extra space" to set up the play room. We brought the stroller, the pack and play and the kids loved having a place to go.

Lots of people could come by and admire the kids, and many people grabbed them and played with them whenever they wanted. It was perfect.
Juliet didn't need a fancy introduction. She spent a lot of her night dancing to the music.
They had a big huge balcony, so the kids enjoyed that too.
Here is Juliet (16 months) and Aerith (2) playing outside. Aerith is Nathan's cousin David's daughter.
David and I have known each other for a long time! I used to play with his sister Renee when I was in middle school! *small world*
After the toasts, the first dance and the daddy daughter dance...they invited everyone to join them on the dance floor. Lucas ran over to Jared and Erin and pulled her over to the floor.
He promised her the first dance and wanted to honor that. :)
Can I just say that my kids are EXCELLENT dancers.
They spent the rest of the night, getting down!
Nathan loves dancing with his daughters.
Mason with his favorite dance partner, Auntie Erin!
The Witte's love to dance. Here is Auntie Liz and Lucas.
 Jules and Uncle Alex.
Uncle Ben and Bridget
 Uncle Jared and Scarlett
Scarlett airing out with Auntie Liz.
Bridget danced with all sorts of people. This is Danielle's uncle.
Anyone that would dance with her was fair game.
She absolutely loves to boogie.
 Lucas and Auntie Danielle
 Bridget and Uncle Cory
Nathan and I enjoying the sunset on the terrace
 Bridget and Great Aunt Donna!
All the kids had a great time with the family. Chris better get married fast when he gets home from his mission next year! Hehehe
My kids need another reason to par-tay!
I tried to get Noah and Elijah and Sydney to dance, but they were not having it.
Sydney eventually caved in.
Then it was cake time, and then we threw jammies on the girls and snagged a piece of cake to go and headed home. We didn't get home until after 11pm.

I did let the kids have their cake for breakfast today. They thought that was awesome!
I love that I married into a big family. It seems like every year I get a new sister or niece or nephew. Its awesome!
Happy Wedding Day Danielle and Ben!
I hope you will feel as lucky as I do to be married to a Witte. :thumps up:
